Is now a good time to buy gold, or should I buy a little at a time?

We cannot tell you whether now is a good time to buy gold, because we cannot know where the price goes next, and we are not allowed to give financial advice. What you can do is buy a little at a time, so that no single day decides what you paid.

Why we will not say whether now is a good time

We are a registered precious metals dealer. That registration is about preventing money laundering. It is not a licence to give financial advice, so we do not tell customers when to buy or sell. A record price today is only the price today. It does not tell you what comes next, up or down.

Every bar and coin we hold is on one page, priced live against spot.

What buying in steps does

If you buy the same amount each month, you pay a different price each time. Some purchases cost more and some cost less, and your average lands somewhere between. That does not guarantee a better price than buying once. What it does is take away the pressure of picking one day.

Our article on buying gold every month for 40 years works through that arithmetic with our own price history.

Small sizes cost more for each gram

A small bar or coin lets you start with a small amount, but its premium for each gram is usually higher than on a larger bar. So there is a trade. The more often you buy small pieces, the more premium you pay in total for the same grams. Some buyers save up and buy a larger bar every few months instead. Others accept the extra cost for the steady habit.

The savings program

Digital Gold and Silver is our savings program. You top up in set amounts and hold your balance in grams, and you can swap grams for a bar or sell them back to us. What it costs is shown on our savings page, so we do not print it here.

Nothing on this page is financial advice. It explains how buying works and what it costs, so you can decide for yourself.

Questions we are asked about this

Is now a good time to buy gold?
We cannot say. No one can know where the price goes next, and a registered dealer is not allowed to give financial advice. If you want to reduce the weight of choosing one day, you can buy a little at a time.
What is the simplest way to put a fixed amount into gold every month in Singapore?
Either buy a small bar or coin each month, or top up Digital Gold and Silver, our savings program. The first gives you metal to collect, the second gives you grams in an account that we store for you.
Does buying a little at a time get me a better price?
Not necessarily. You pay a different price each time, and your average lands between the highest and lowest. Small pieces also carry a higher premium for each gram than a larger bar.
Gold is at a record. Should I sell my old jewellery now or wait?
We cannot tell you which is better. A record price is the price today, and it does not show what comes next. What we can do is tell you what your jewellery is worth today, so you can decide how much to sell and when.
